Il Gattopardo invites you on an exquisite journey through Southern Italy’s rich culinary heritage, right in the heart of New York City’s historic West 54th Street. This elegant Italian restaurant specializes in the vibrant flavors of Sicily and Sardinia, charming diners with a masterful blend of authenticity and sophistication. Nestled in a stunning townhouse on an iconic tree-lined avenue, Il Gattopardo offers a dining experience that feels both luxurious and warmly inviting.
The menu here is a celebration of Southern Italian gastronomy, featuring standout dishes that delight the senses. Start with the Spaghetti Bottarga, a luscious plate of perfectly al dente pasta tossed with savory grey mullet bottarga, fragrant garlic, fresh parsley, and a subtle kick from crushed Calabrian red pepper. Or indulge in the house-made Cavatelli Shellfish, where tender shell-shaped pasta is awash in a succulent ragout of fresh shellfish, delivering a taste of the sea with every bite. For those seeking something heartier, the Broiled Striped Bass impresses with its delicate flakes accented by lemon and fennel pollen, artfully plated alongside grilled yellow squash and mint zucchini.
The culinary repertoire extends beyond pasta and seafood to exquisite mains such as the Codfish In Casseruola — a comforting casserole rich with the briny tang of Gaeta olives and Pantelleria capers balanced by vibrant cherry tomatoes and organic potatoes. Not to be missed are the rustic delights like Veal Chop Milanese and the indulgent Pheasant Ravioli, each dish crafted to showcase the depth and diversity of Southern Italy’s regional specialties.
Dining at Il Gattopardo is more than just a meal; it’s a sensorial escape. The ambiance speaks volumes — a chic yet understated elegance resonates throughout the space, with vintage charm from its townhouse setting blending seamlessly with modern touches. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance for intimate dinners or celebratory gatherings, where conversation flows freely in an environment free from distractions.
Service here is impeccable, embodying true hospitality. As many delighted guests report, the attentive staff elevates the experience, thoughtfully refilling glasses, recommending superb wine pairings, and ensuring every detail feels curated. Whether it’s a well-crafted Martini to start or a comforting cappuccino to end the night, your drink journey is as refined as the food.
Guests frequently rave about the freshness and generosity of portions, highlighting dishes like the Fresh Mozzarella Salad and the Lobster Salad as some of the best they’ve ever tasted. For dessert, the Pear Mousse Au Chocolate Hazelnut offers a luscious finale — rich, yet light enough to leave you satisfied without overwhelming the palate.
Il Gattopardo stands out not only for delivering authentic Southern Italian flavors but also for crafting an overall experience marked by grace and genuine care. From historic neighborhood charm to innovative culinary craftsmanship, it’s a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary Italian dining destination in New York.
This place is swanky, chic, elegant and simply delicious. They take good care of their customers! The service is 10/10 where the waiters always keep your glass full, refill baskets and olive oil and always serve large groups with a smile. The prosciutto and burrata was so good. The wine menu is expansive. The salad was fresh and plentiful. The dining room is in a gorgeous townhouse with a gatsby feeling with white linens and beautifully dressed white suited waiters with jazz music in the background. Moreover we loved the fresh grated parm and black pepper for each dish, it was a nice touch to the experience for our company lunch! I especially love that this place specializes in seasonal produce and more specifically: black truffle (November apparently has the best selection and display at the front of the house). I ordered the homemade ricotta gnocchi special with black truffle sauce and it was divine. The menu is south Italian with a good balance of meat seafood and vegetarian dishes whether it be grilled chicken, veal, steak or more exotic items like swordfish. I also was thoroughly impressed with their breaded veal milanese chop and pork pasta. However I felt the truffle gnocchi had way too much salt i felt super thirsty after. Might I add- I love their apple tart(they have a cute little apple design on top) and seasonal gelatto/sorbet for dessert with fresh mint and perfect portions (love the pineapple sorbet it literally tasted like a pina colada. The coffee was so good , the double espresso is strong and the cappuccino is dreamy. I can’t wait to return here for more wine and dining.
Had a lovely dinner at Il Gattopardo tonight. Food was good, but the service was what made the night special. Our server Ignis was attentive and helped us choose a delicious wine and cocktails. Would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re looking for a good Italian restaurant and a wine selection of the highest quality.
Best lobster salad I ever had! Amazing food and highly recommended!
We gad just touted So Italy (Sicily & Sardinia) so it was with anticipation to dine. The restaurant is elegant but nit over the top. Unlike some other NY restaurants you could have dinner and a conversation without disruptions. Service was excellent, quietly efficient and attentive. Specials were clearly explained. The food wss amazing
Excellent Restaurant that specializes in southern italian food. It is located in the old millionare row of NY. The location is famous for its most prominent resident, John D Rockefeller. Food is delicious, and the service is amazing. Inside is a wonderful ambiance, but sit outside and enjoy the tree lined street. I ordered the broiled stripe bass with lemon and fennel pollen. Highly recommend. Close to The Museum of Modern Art. So enjoy a great restaurant with a rich New York history.
Absolutely outstanding Italian food, really romantic ambiance (inside a historic building), great service but slow when at peak dinner time. What to order: - Any pasta! - Broiled striped bass - If there’s a Risotto special, order it. Perfectly cooked! Must-get Dessert: table side Zabaione Al Ramandolo with mixed berries Great wine selection too.
I had a lovely dinner at Il Gattopardo. The service was attentive and professional, and the ambiance was elegant but relaxed perfect for a quiet evening in the city. To start, I had the grilled octopus over endive and celery. It was beautifully cooked tender with just the right amount of char, and the balance of textures and flavors was spot on. Definitely a highlight of the meal. For the main, I ordered the Neapolitan linguine with clams, anchovy, parsley, and garlic pesto. The pasta was nicely done, and the ingredients were fresh, but the dish was a bit too salty for my taste. Still enjoyable, just a small detail worth noting. Overall, it was a great experience and I would return to try other dishes.
We were looking for an Italian restaurant along our route and came across this one. Wait staff friendly, and were very helpful with making suggestions based on what we told them what we liked. I never had Italian food in Italy but I think this prob was the real deal because I have never had Italian food with such great taste.
